Still thinking about that guy at the Nashville co-op who yelled at me for greasing a pedal thread
Honestly, I was just a volunteer at the Bikeworks co-op off Charlotte Ave and this older guy named Dave saw me put grease on the pedal threads before installing them. He pulled me aside and told me pedals are supposed to go in dry because grease makes them spin loose over time, and showed me how they actually self-tighten with friction. I still second guess myself every time I install pedals now. Has anyone else gotten conflicting advice on grease vs no grease for pedal threads?

Is Dave secretly in a secret society of pedal installers with a secret handshake and everything? I swear every bike shop has that one guy with a super strong opinion about the exact right way to do one tiny thing. Grease, no grease, I just hope my pedals don't decide to take a vacation mid-ride.
