Pro tip: a stripped pedal thread can eat up a whole afternoon

I had a steel frame with a single bad thread on the crank arm that looked fine at first. It took me over four hours to chase it properly with a tap and some cutting oil instead of just forcing it. Has anyone else found a better way to fix this without pulling the whole crank?
