Just found out Shimano actually recommends greasing press-fit bottom bracket shells before install
Was digging through their dealer manual last night for another issue and saw it in black and white, what side are you on - factory dry fit for max friction or greasing to prevent creaking down the road?

Grease it every single time without question. Did a build last year where I followed the manual dry like some purist and had creaking within three months, had to pull the whole crankset and bb out to fix it. The whole point of press fit is that it relies on interference fit anyway so a thin layer of grease isn't going to make it walk out on you. Shimano knows their own stuff better than internet forum experts lol. Just use a light coat on the shell and the bearing cups and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

Yeah I've got a 105 R7000 on a frame I built up two years ago. Greased the BB shell and cups with Park Polylube before pressing and it's been dead silent ever since. Did a friend's bike recently where the guy before him used no grease and had that same creak you're describing. Pulled it out, cleaned it up, greased it properly and the noise vanished. Press fit tolerances from frame manufacturers vary way more than they should so a dry install is just asking for trouble. Grease is cheap, pulling a BB isn't.
