Had a customer's vintage Campagnolo derailleur spring snap mid-adjustment

I was in the shop last Tuesday, trying to dial in the shifting on a classic Colnago. The bike was on the stand and I was turning the barrel adjuster when I heard a sharp ping. The main spring in the rear derailleur just gave out, leaving the whole thing slack. I had to tell the owner we needed to hunt down a donor part, which could take weeks. Has anyone had luck finding replacement springs for old Campy parts lately?

Why does everything old break right now?

Honestly it's not that everything old is breaking right now. It's more that we notice it all at once because we're home so much. Tbh my ten year old coffee maker gave out last week and it felt like the final straw. But that thing had a good long life, you know? Stuff just wears out on its own schedule, not ours. It just seems like a conspiracy when it happens in a bunch.
