Appreciation post: the swap meet guy in San Antonio who saved my IBM Model M from my own dumb mistake
I was pulling the keycaps off a Model M I got for $15 at a swap meet in San Antonio last Saturday when one of the springs shot off the table and down a floor drain in the parking lot. I stood there for a minute just staring at the grate, then a guy at the next table handed me a magnet on a stick and said "try the drain, son." Took me 20 minutes and three tries but I got the spring back, and he showed me how to pop caps with a wire puller so they don't fly. Now I do all my cap pulling inside a big clear storage bin, and I've only lost one since. Any of you got a trick for keeping those springs from launching across the room?
