Warning: the "just fade it" advice for new barbers is setting guys up to fail
Last week a kid fresh out of barber school told me his instructor pushed fading over everything else because it's what clients want. I get it, fades pay the bills, but he had zero practice on scissor work, shear over comb, or cutting anyone over a 3 guard. I've been behind the chair 11 years in Columbus and I still see guys panic when a walk in with medium length wavy hair sits down. A fade hides mistakes. A layered cut with no guard to save you exposes every bad section line and uneven weight. So my question is for the vets: do you think schools should slow down on clipper work or is this just how it goes now?
