Unpopular opinion: I swapped my clipper-over-comb technique for shears on most crown areas

After 15 years of barbering at a dive bar in Pittsburgh, I finally ditched the clippers for shears on the crown last November and my fades look way cleaner with less bulk left behind, has anyone else made that switch and stuck with it?

my fades look way cleaner with less bulk left behind" - I dunno man, I gotta push back on that a little. I've been doing this for about a decade now and I still think clippers over comb on the crown is the only way to really blend weight lines properly. Shears just leave too much texture up there for my eyes, especially on thicker hair types. If you're getting bulk issues, you might be leaving too much length with your clipper work or not overlapping your sections right. I've tried the shear thing a few times and always end up with weird patches that I gotta chase with the clippers anyway. Not saying it can't work for some barbers, but for me it's just not worth the extra time and risk of messing up the blend.

Why not just use shears with thinning comb on the crown?
