Talked to a retired barber at my shop yesterday that made me rethink my clipper oil

He was 78 years old, been cutting since he was 16. He told me he never used clipper oil once in his whole career, just wiped blades down with a dry cloth after every cut. Said oil just attracts hair dust and grime over time. I've been drenching my blades for 6 years and now I'm wondering if I've been making extra work for myself. Anyone else ever try going dry on their clippers?

Man "never used clipper oil once" - that kind of statement just hits different coming from someone with that much experience. It makes me wonder if we overcomplicate things sometimes with all the maintenance products.

Whoa, really? Never once? That blows my mind a little bit. I mean, I get that some of those maintenance routines are probably overkill, but clipper oil feels like the bare minimum. @elizabethpalmer, I bet that guy has some wild stories about equipment lasting way longer than anyone expects. It definitely makes you stop and think about what actually matters versus what we just assume is needed.
