Picked the clipper over the straight razor for a first time client today

I had a guy come in wanting a full shave but he admitted he was nervous. So I grabbed my Andis Master instead and gave him a clean buzz cut blend. He walked out smiling and booked again for next month. Anyone else switch up their tool choice to make a nervous client more comfortable?

Different approach for sure but I guess I see it the other way. If a guy wants a full shave and you give him a buzzcut instead you kind of changed what he asked for. Could've just talked him through it and stuck with the straight razor.

Yeah I get what you're saying but I read somewhere that like 90% of new barber mistakes come from pushing a service the client isn't ready for. Getting them in the chair comfortable is better than losing them forever lol.
