Old timer named Chuck told me to stop using thinning shears on curly hair years ago

Finally tried his method of point cutting dry curls instead and my client actually tipped me double for the first time ever, has anyone else found that shears just wreck natural curl patterns?

Whoa hold on. Thinning shears have their place if you know what you're doing. I've used them on wet curls for years to take bulk out of thick heads without losing shape. Gets rid of weight without chopping the curl pattern if you slide them through right. Point cutting dry curls can leave those weird blunt ends if you're not careful too. Not saying your guy was wrong but maybe it's more about technique than the tool.

Took me way too long to admit this but yeah, shears are awful on curls (especially dry ones). I was stubborn for years thinking they were saving time, but really I was just creating frizz and weird uneven layers. Once I switched to point cutting like Chuck said, my clients actually started coming back because their curls didn't look hacked up after.
