Old timer in Philly told me to stop using clipper oil on my blades

Guy who's been cutting since the 80s said oil just attracts dust and gummed up his rigs, told me to use a dry silicone spray instead. I thought he was nuts but tried it for a month back in April, my Wahl blades run way cooler and I'm not cleaning them near as often. Anyone else ditch the oil or is this guy just an outlier?
