Hot take: I think blending guards is overrated for certain fades
So I tried doing a full bald fade with just clipper over comb last week on a guy at the shop on 5th Street... no guards at all. The result was way smoother and more natural than any guarded blend I've done in 6 years. Anyone else ditch the plastic guards sometimes or am I just weird for this?

You said "no guards at all" and thats exactly what I've been doing more of lately. I started doing it on skin fades where the blend needs to be real soft and the plastic guards just leave that harsh line every time. Clipper over comb gives you way more control to feather out the transition, especially around the parietal ridge where guards mess up. Its not weird at all, I think people are just scared to try it because they got used to the numbered guards from barber school. Once you get the wrist motion down it opens up a whole new way to blend.
