Finally figured out why my fades were always off on the left side
Been cutting hair for 3 years and kept noticing my left side fades looked choppy compared to the right. My buddy watched me last Tuesday and pointed out I was holding my clipper at a different angle on the left side because I'm right handed. Anyone else catch themselves doing stuff like that without realizing?

Thats a super common thing right handed barbers deal with. Try setting up a mirror directly across from your station so you can check your angles as you go. Also, practice doing your first guideline pass with your non dominant hand holding the clipper to force your body to find a neutral position.

Man I feel that so hard. It's one of those things nobody warns you about when you're starting out, you just figure it out by accident after a hundred haircuts. I actually had a buddy who was a lefty teach me that mirror trick years ago and it saved my neck, literally. The non-dominant hand thing sounds brutal but honestly it forces you to slow down and think about every move you make, which is probably a good habit anyway. I still catch myself leaning sideways sometimes on a fade and have to correct it, it's like my body just defaults to that bad angle.
