Client's offhand comment about my fade lines made me ditch the trimmer for a week

Guy sitting in my chair in Austin said 'you must use a razor for those lines' and I told him no, but then I tried it on the next three cuts and the sharpness difference was so obvious I'm honestly embarrassed about the last 2 years of my work, anyone else switch tools because of a customer's casual remark?

Ditch the razor for a week and go back to your old method, then do a side by side on two cuts. You'll see the difference in the fade immediatly, especially around the temple and the neckline. I had the same thing happen when a client asked if I used a foil shaver on the edges, and now I finish every skin fade with a detail trimmer and a slow pass. Just take your time and check it from every angle, and don't be afraid to hit the same spot twice from different directions. Your angles will get sharper, but your fade will still look soft if you don't rush it.
