Been fading hairlines for 3 years and just realized I was angling my clippers wrong
I was watching a barber at a shop in Austin do a zero fade and noticed he kept his wrist straight while I always tilt mine inward. Tried copying him on my next client and the blend came out way smoother than anything I've done before. Now I'm wondering how many other basic things I'm messing up without knowing. Is it better to unlearn bad habits on your own or should we all be filming ourselves more often to catch this stuff? Who else had a moment where you found out your technique was backwards the whole time?

Film yourself once a week, man. I caught myself angling my clippers wrong for almost two years before I saw it on video. It's not about being perfect, it's about catching those little things you don't feel while you're working. I also learned I was overstretching the skin on my fades, which was making everything look patchy. So yeah, set up your phone on a tripod or prop it against a bottle of product, and watch it back right after. Way better than wondering for years if you're doing it right.

Buddy of mine recorded himself cutting and realized he was holding his comb like a fork for a solid six months... just a tiny thing but it changed everything once he saw it.
