Was I wrong about fabric pots being a gimmick for balconies? They seem messy but my neighbor swears her tomatoes doubled in size after switching from plastic.

I always thought fabric pots would just leak dirt everywhere and dry out too fast in the summer heat, but after seeing her harvest last month I'm wondering if the extra air flow actually matters more than I gave it credit for has anyone had a similar flip in opinion on these things?

Wait, so I'm not the only one who thought fabric pots were just gonna be a drippy mess? lol I've been fighting with my plastic pots for years now, roots getting all tangled and stuff. My sister switched to fabric last spring and her cherry tomatoes were insane, like bushy and way more fruit than mine. I honestly felt a little dumb for being so stubborn about it, but she said the drying out thing is real - you just gotta water more often, which is fine if you're home. I'm still not sold on them for delicate herbs though, seems like they'd get too dry too fast.

Did I seriously waste years defending my ugly plastic pots? @miller.eva you nailed it with the watering thing. I’m a chronic underwaterer and my fabric pot basil looked like dried herb seasoning in three days. But my tomatoes? Total monsters. I felt like a fool hauling in that harvest while my plastic pot ones were all scraggly. Messy? Yeah. Worth it for the airflow? Yeah, I guess I was wrong.
