Vent: My rosemary bush almost became a skipping rope

I was out on my balcony last Thursday trying to water my herbs when a gust of wind caught my big rosemary plant and whipped it clean over the railing, dangling there like a green rope. My neighbor from the unit below saw the whole thing and yelled up asking if I was training my plants for the circus. Has anyone else had a potted plant stage a great escape on a windy day?

Ngl that's a pretty hilarious image. I read somewhere that rosemary is super tough and can survive being "transplanted" by accident like that. My neighbor's mint once escaped its pot and started growing through the cracks in their deck boards. Plants are wild when they decide to go rogue. At least yours didn't end up taking root in your neighbor's balcony soil or something crazy like that.

A buddy of mine once had a rogue basil plant that escaped a hanging basket on his porch (third floor!) and somehow landed in a crack on the sidewalk below. It grew there for a full summer, getting stomped on by everyone walking by but just kept coming back. He said it looked like a tiny, scrappy weed but it smelled amazing whenever someone stepped on it. Plants are way more determined than we give them credit for.
