Took me 3 months to figure out why my balcony tomatoes kept dying

I started growing cherry tomatoes on my 4th floor balcony in Austin last spring. They kept getting yellow leaves and dropping fruit no matter what I did. I tried different pots, changed the watering schedule, even bought special fertilizer. After three months I finally realized the issue was wind drying out the soil way faster than I thought. I started checking the moisture every morning instead of every other day and now my plants are thriving. Has anyone else had a hidden problem like this that took forever to spot?
