Thought vertical gardening was just a fad... I was wrong

Honestly, I rolled my eyes so hard when my neighbor in Phoenix kept pushing those green wall pockets. I figured it was just gonna rot in the sun and look trashy. But after 3 months with my own setup on the south balcony, my cherry tomatoes are actually thriving and using a fraction of the floor space. Has anyone else had a grow system they were skeptical about that surprised them?

Started out thinking those vertical planters were just for rich people with too much money and not enough dirt. Bought a cheap wall pocket kit from the hardware store last spring, figured it'd be a disaster... three months later I got zucchini leaves hanging down like green curtains, totally shading my back porch and keeping it cool. Gobsmacked is the word, really. The thing I never expected was how easy it is to water when you just hook up a drip line to each pocket. Now I'm looking at my neighbor's setup and feeling like an idiot for laughing at him.

lol I feel that "gobsmacked" thing hard. I tried to grow basil in one of those shoe organizers and ended up with a jungle I couldn't even reach the top of.
