Saw a guy growing peppers in old paint buckets on a fire escape in Queens
I was in Astoria last weekend visiting my sister and the building next to hers had about 14 paint buckets lined up on the fire escape, all bolted down with little brackets. Every bucket had a pepper plant, and a few had basil stuffed in around the edges. The guy came out while I was looking and told me he drills 6 holes in the bottom of each one and uses the same mix every time, half potting soil and half compost from a bin he keeps under his sink. He said he gets around 40 peppers a season off that setup. I have two store bought pots on my own balcony and they look sad compared to his buckets. Anyone here tried growing in old containers like that, and did you have to do anything special so they don't rot out?
