One comment about watering my ferns made me cut back big time

I used to water everything on my balcony every single morning, no exceptions. Last month my neighbor glanced over and said 'you know those ferns are getting way too much water, right? They look like they're drowning.' I brushed it off at first but then I checked the fronds and yeah, they were yellowing and mushy at the base. So I switched to only watering when the top inch of soil feels dry, maybe every 3-4 days now instead of daily. My Boston fern actually bounced back within two weeks. Has anyone else gotten good advice from a random neighbor that totally flipped their routine?
