My self-watering pot grew mold instead of herbs
Bought a fancy self-watering system from a local garden shop in Austin. Roots rotted after 3 weeks because the water never drained right. Has anyone found a brand that actually works for basil on a hot balcony?

Oh man, I feel your pain so much. I bought one of those self-watering pots from a big box store and it turned my mint into a swampy mess with fuzzy green fuzz all over the top. The water just sits there and never actually drains, it's like a mold factory. I switched back to a regular terracotta pot with a saucer and now my basil is happy and dry. These fancy systems are a total scam for anything that needs airflow.

Totally agree with you @harperb46, those self-watering pots are a nightmare for anything that likes to breathe. I got one for my rosemary once and it literally turned into a science experiment with fuzzy green stuff on top. I ended up drilling extra drainage holes in the bottom just to get any airflow, but honestly, terracotta with a saucer is the way to go. My succulents hate anything that keeps their feet wet, so I just stick to the old school method now.
