My balcony basil was getting wrecked by bugs and I got desperate
I noticed tiny holes in every leaf about two weeks ago. I didn't want to use any harsh sprays up here on the 12th floor. So, I mixed a tablespoon of dish soap with a liter of water in a spray bottle, just as a last-ditch effort. I sprayed the plants down every evening for four days straight. It actually WORKED, the bugs are totally gone and the new growth looks perfect. Has anyone else used this soap trick on herbs you plan to eat?

Works on aphids too.

Hmm, I've never had much luck using that on aphids. They come back so fast it feels like you're just slowing them down for a day. Last summer I tried it on my roses and it was a total waste of time. Had to switch to insecticidal soap to actually clear them out.
