My $12 balcony tomato setup got wrecked by a gust and I'm weirdly okay with it
So I live on the 5th floor in Chicago and I've been babying four cherry tomato plants on my balcony since April. Last Thursday a storm rolled through around 7pm and my cheap wire shelving unit, the one I got for 12 bucks at a garage sale, tipped right over and dumped two of the pots onto the concrete. One pot cracked, soil went everywhere, and I stood there in the rain just staring at it. I thought I'd be furious but honestly I just laughed, because the whole thing was held together with zip ties and hope. The funny part is the two plants that fell are actually doing better now, since the fall basically re-potted them and I never would have done it myself. The stems got a little bent but new growth is already coming in near the base. Has anyone else had a plant survive a total wipeout like this? Wondering if I should just leave them be or stake them now before the next storm.
