Left my tomato plant in a deep pot by accident and got a jungle
So I stuck a cherry tomato seedling in this tall storage tub last spring, like 18 inches deep, just because I had no other pots. Figured it would be fine, whatever. Fast forward to August and that thing is a monster. It grew up my railing, over a chair, and started dropping roots into the soil from the stem like it was planning a takeover. I had no idea tomatoes would send out roots all along the stem if you give them enough depth. I harvested like 6 pounds off that one plant in a single week. My other tomatoes in shallow pots did maybe half that. Now I'm wondering if I need to go deeper for everything on my balcony. Has anyone else tried super deep containers for stuff like peppers or basil and seen a difference?

Read somewhere that deeper pots help roots breathe better and that's why your plant went crazy.

Started using deeper fabric pots last year and my tomatoes went nuts too.
