I swear by those cheap plastic pots from the dollar store even after a catastrophe last July

I was out on my balcony in Phoenix checking my tomato plants after a 110 degree heatwave, and 3 of my cheap dollar store pots literally cracked in half. Soil and roots went everywhere, it was a mess (and I mean everywhere, including the neighbor's balcony below). Instead of replacing them with expensive terracotta or ceramic, I just bought more of the same plastic pots but lined them with old t-shirt scraps for insulation. Surprisingly, the plants bounced back in 2 weeks and the pots haven't cracked since. Has anyone else had luck with a weird hack like that for extreme heat?

Man you're lucky your plants bounced back, all my dollar store pots do is crack and then judge me silently from the trash can. I tried the t-shirt thing once on a cheap pot in Texas and it just melted into a weird plastic-shred hybrid goo.

@kelly338 at least yours just silently judged you, mine straight up exploded like a confetti cannon of dirt. I had the same problem until I started double-walling mine with old cardboard and duct tape, held up way better than I expected through a nasty stretch of 100+ days.
