Figuring out balcony shade took me almost a whole summer
I kept losing my lettuce starts to sun scorch on a south facing balcony and it took me until August to realize a simple bamboo screen clipped to the railing did the trick. Anyone else take forever to solve a basic gardening problem that should have been obvious?

South facing balconies are brutal. Did you try reflective materials first before the bamboo? I ask because I wasted money on white fabric that barely diffused heat. Bamboo screens work so well because they block direct rays but still let air flow through. Just curious if you tested anything else before landing on that fix.
