The day I learned baking powder actually expires and ruins cookies
I was making my grandma's sugar cookie recipe last weekend and they came out flat as pancakes. Turns out the baking powder I had was two years past its date. I checked the can and it was bought in March 2022. Has anyone else had a batch get wrecked by old leavening?

Tossed a whole tray of cookies last month because the baking powder was just as old.

Old baking powder isn't always a death sentence for baked goods though. I honestly find that a quick drop test in hot water tells you if it's still alive, and cookies in particular are pretty forgiving. Unless it's years old and totally flat, you probably could have saved those.
