That week I ruined 4 batches of bread in a row

It was about 3 years ago, right before Thanksgiving. First batch I forgot the salt, second one the yeast was dead, third I overproofed by 2 hours because I fell asleep on the couch. The fourth one actually looked great until I dropped the whole loaf pan on the floor taking it out of the oven. Never had a week like that since, but I still check my yeast every time now. Anyone else have a baking streak go that wrong?

Man that fourth loaf hitting the floor after all that is just brutal. So when you dropped it, did you just stand there staring at it for a minute or did you immediately start swearing and sweep it up? I've had stuff like that happen and it's like your brain just blanks out for a second.

Hated that "check your yeast" advice for years, thought it was just paranoid hobbyists. Then I killed three batches in one weekend - first one didn't rise at all, second one looked like a pancake, third one I realized the packet had been sitting in my hot pantry for six months. Now I'm that person who tests yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar before anything else hits the bowl. The fourth loaf I actually dropped on the floor while transferring it to the oven, which felt like the universe piling on.
