Sister told me my pie crust was tough. She was right.
She said it tasted like cardboard. I was using ice water but not enough fat. Swapped to half butter half shortening. Also stopped overworking the dough. Now it actually flakes. Anyone else have a family member give brutal but useful feedback?

Kind of a big deal over a pie crust. It's flour and fat, right? Not like you messed up a holiday dinner for 20 people. She called it cardboard though, that's rough. But hey, you fixed it so no harm done. Sometimes people take cooking feedback way too personal.

Funny you mention that, @river_fox18. Honestly, calling someone's homemade pie crust cardboard is a pretty harsh hit. Its not just flour and fat when you put the work in. You spend time getting it just right and someone throws a word like that at you. Makes you feel like your effort doesn't matter at all. Glad they fixed it, but still stings.
