Question about getting cookie sizes consistent
I spent like 8 months trying to figure out why my chocolate chip cookies were all different sizes. One batch would be flat and wide, next would be tall and puffy. Finally realized it was because I was just eyeballing the dough balls and they varied by like 30 grams each. Bought a simple kitchen scale for 12 bucks and weighed each ball to exactly 45 grams. Now every cookie comes out the same size and shape every time. Took me way too long to figure that out honestly. Anyone else have a simple fix that took months to stumble on?

Started weighing my dough balls after a similar struggle, and it changed everything (honestly, it's kind of embarrassing how long it took me too). But here's a tip I picked up later that took it even further - if you pop your weighed dough balls in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before baking, the cold butter makes them spread way less and hold their shape better. Then I started experimenting with chilling them overnight, and that's when the flavor got really deep and complex (the dough kind of marinates, you know?). Now I always do a double batch, weigh out 40 gram balls (slightly smaller so I can eat two without guilt), and freeze half of them. That way I can pull out exactly what I need for fresh cookies anytime without the whole measuring drama.

40 grams? That's a snack, not a cookie.
