My sourdough starter was a total brick for weeks until I tried the pineapple juice trick

Honestly, I was about to give up on my starter after it just sat there like a sad pancake for almost a month. I saw a comment on a blog from someone in Portland who said to use 2 tablespoons of pineapple juice instead of water for the first two feeds. Tbh, it bubbled up in like 12 hours and now it's super active. Has anyone else tried this or got another weird fix for a lazy starter?

Oh my gosh, the "sad pancake" stage is the worst! I totally get that feeling of just staring at a jar of paste and wanting to give up. I had a starter that was totally dead for weeks until I tried keeping it in my oven with just the light on for a little warmth. That pineapple juice trick sounds wild, but I love hearing these weird little fixes that actually work. It's such a relief when something finally wakes it up.

Tell me about it, @iris565, my starter looked like a science experiment gone wrong for a solid month. I almost gave it a funeral and started over. The oven light trick is a total lifesaver, it's like a tiny spa day for sad yeast. Honestly at this point I'd try pineapple juice, or chanting at it, or anything to avoid that gross paste phase again.
