My grandmother's pie crust recipe finally betrayed me...

I was trying to make her famous apple pie for my mom's 60th birthday last Saturday, and the crust just completely fell apart when I tried to roll it out. Like, crumbly mess all over the counter... I think I added too much cold water trying to save it? Ended up buying a frozen pie shell at the store at 10 PM and telling everyone it was 'rustic style.' Has anyone else had a trusted recipe just suddenly stop working on you?

Wait hold on, @bell.emma are you serious right now?? Room temp butter is like the most basic thing for baking, I thought everyone knew that. Cold butter straight from the fridge is a totally different beast, it won't cream right and you'll end up with dense, flat cookies or whatever. Let it sit out for like 30-45 minutes, it should be soft enough to leave a dent when you press it but not melty at all. Anything warmer than that and you're basically making a greasy mess instead of creaming it properly. I've ruined so many batches learning this the hard way, trust me on this one.
