My grandma's pie crust recipe took a weird turn last week
I tried making her apple pie last Thursday, the one she wrote down for me back in 2018. The dough came out super sticky, like way more than I remember. I ended up adding like half a cup more flour just to get it to hold together. The crust came out tough and chewy though, not flaky at all. Anyone else have old family recipes that seem to change on you over time?

Oh honey, have you checked if you're using the same brand of flour? I switched brands once and my biscuits turned into hockey pucks before I figured it out. Different flours have different protein levels and that can mess with the whole moisture balance in a recipe.

Oh totally, that happened to me with my pie crusts... I swapped to a store brand once and everything just fell apart. It's wild how much protein levels can change the whole game with baking. I ended up going back to my old brand and it was like magic again.
