Attempted a mirror glaze at 11pm, ended up with a purple blob that looked like a science experiment

I tried that shiny mirror glaze cake for my sister's birthday last Friday. Watched like 4 videos, felt confident. Mixed everything right, but my kitchen thermometer said 95F when I poured it over the chilled cake. The whole thing just slid off and pooled at the bottom like a melting crayon. I scraped it off, threw some whipped cream and berries on top, and called it a rustic mess. She laughed and said it tasted better than the fancy ones anyway. Has anyone else had a glaze fail that turned into a happy accident, or is it just me?
