Update: My cake layers stopped sticking after a simple switch
I used to fight with my cake pans every time, but last bake I greased them with shortening instead of butter. The cakes came out clean and didn't tear at all. It made decorating so much easier. What's your go-to method for making sure cakes release nicely?

Wonder if we're overthinking a basic step. I just use the butter wrapper and call it a day.

That butter wrapper trick is solid, but you gotta take it one step further. After I rub the wrapper around, I dust the pan with a super thin coat of flour over the butter. Tbh, the butter alone can sometimes still grip, but that little bit of flour makes a non-stick surface that never fails. It’s the combo that does it.

Ever try just a tiny bit of oil spray after the butter? Works for me every time.
