I brought my 8 month old starter into a supply shop on SE Division to buy a new jar and the older guy behind the counter peered at it and said it looked thin, like flour soup with bubbles, not a real culture. I got defensive right there by the register, but later that night I fed it at 1:1:1 instead of eyeballing it and the rise doubled within two days. How do you all handle it when a stranger's offhand comment about your starter turns out to be the thing you needed to hear?
