My stand mixer quit mid-batch on Saturday morning

The KitchenAid locked up while I was creaming butter for a 50-cookie order, so I had to finish mixing by hand and now my right arm is useless, anyone else ever had a mixer gear strip on them during a bake crunch?

Plastic gears are a joke. KitchenAid is living off their old reputation.

Yeah the gears stripping is a real pain... did you notice any weird noises or grinding before it locked up? I had an old mixer do that once and it made this awful clicking sound for like two weeks before it finally gave out, but I just kept ignoring it cause I'm an idiot. The newer ones have that plastic gear inside that's supposed to be a weak point on purpose so it doesn't burn out the motor, but it still sucks when you're in the middle of something. I'm guessing you already checked the warranty? Those things are usually pretty good about covering gear replacements for the first couple years. Also... were you running it on high speed for a while? That always seems to make the plastic gear fail faster in my experience.
