My sourdough starter was flat for months until I moved it to the top of my fridge

It was in a cool spot on my counter. The dough never rose right. I saw a post about warm spots in the kitchen. I put the jar on top of my fridge, where it's warmer. The starter doubled in size in two days. Anyone else find a weird warm spot that fixed their starter?

Honestly that sounds like pure luck to me. Tbh starters are way more tough than people give them credit for. Moving it probably just shook things up and it was already about to get active. Ngl my starter lives in a cool pantry and it works fine, so the whole warm spot thing is overblown. You can make a starter work anywhere if you just feed it right and leave it alone. People get way too caught up on finding a magic spot.

Consider how moving it might have changed the light, @the_riley, not just the air or temperature.

Totally agree that starters are tough (they're basically just wild yeast, right?). But that whole "shaking things up" idea is interesting, like maybe moving it just mixed in some fresh air or something.
