My sourdough starter exploded after I fed it pineapple juice

I heard that pineapple juice can help kickstart a new starter because of the acidity, so I tried it with my batch in Portland last week. Instead of a slow rise, it doubled in size within 4 hours and bubbled over the jar onto my counter. What I learned is that the sugar in the juice feeds the yeast way faster than plain flour, so you gotta use a bigger container or it's a mess. Has anyone else had this happen with fruit juices?

Yeah, pineapple juice is basically rocket fuel for starter.

Whoa. Rocket fuel is right. That stuff makes your starter go absolutely bonkers. I bet you had a science fair volcano on your counter. Next time just get a bowl big enough for a cat to sleep in, that should hold it. At least you didn't try feeding it straight molasses, that's a whole different disaster.
