Dropped $85 on a 'game changer' dough sheeter that broke on loaf two
So about 6 months ago I got it in my head that I needed a dough sheeter to speed up my croissant folds. I found one on a flash sale for $85 and thought I was so smart. First batch, worked great. Second batch, the crank handle spun free and the whole roller locked up mid fold, right in the middle of a laminated dough I had spent two days on. I tried to fix it with a hex key and just stripped the screw. Customer service told me I could ship it back for a refund, but shipping was $42 and they wanted it in the original box, which my cat had already claimed. So I ate the loss and went back to my $12 rolling pin from the restaurant supply place on 3rd street. Lesson learned: a cheap sheeter is just a fancy paperweight with a crank. Anyone got a brand that actually holds up past 10 batches, or am I doomed to roll by hand forever?
