Unpopular opinion: those heat lamps everyone swears by almost killed my flock

I was dead set against switching to a radiant heater because I figured the old bulb style worked fine, but after my neighbor's shed caught fire from a knocked-over lamp last winter I swapped to a Sweeter Heater and my birds actually stopped panting under it so now I'm wondering if anyone else made the switch and regretted it or was it just me being stubborn for three years?

Radiant heat is a total game changer once you get past the initial sticker shock. My old bulbs always left hot spots where birds would crowd and pant, and the cold corners were miserable. Swapped to a flat panel heater two winters ago and everyone just spreads out evenly underneath it. No more worried about knocked over lamps or fires either. The birds stopped huddling and actually started sleeping on the perches instead of packed together on the floor.
