Took me 6 weeks to figure out my hens were eating their own eggs
I kept finding broken shells and thought a raccoon was getting in somehow until I caught my Rhode Island Red pecking at a fresh egg yesterday. Turns out I was giving them too much light in the chicken tractor during winter and they got bored. Anyone else have a dumb simple fix that took forever to find?

Read somewhere that adding a golf ball to the nesting box can trick them into pecking something useless instead, sounds weird but might break the habit faster.

Oh man, I used to roll my eyes at the golf ball trick thinking it was some Pinterest nonsense. But after watching my own chickens go through this cycle three times, I actually tried it and it worked way better than I expected. Sometimes the dumbest looking fixes are the ones you overlook first.
