Took me 6 months to figure out why my hens quit laying, and it was the coop light all along
I keep 8 barred rocks in a coop behind my garage in Dayton and production fell off a cliff around October. I tried extra oyster shell, switched feed twice, even paid $85 for a vet visit that gave me nothing. Turns out I'd left a cheap LED shop light running in there since summer, and once I put it on a timer for 14 hours a day, I got 5 eggs by the second morning. Anybody else accidentally mess with their flock's light without realizing it?

An $85 vet visit for a $10 light problem is rough lol. Honestly though I'm shocked the LED was enough to mess them up, I always figured those put out way less light than a real bulb. Good to know a cheap shop light can throw them off like that.
