That guy who said to use pine shavings instead of straw was right

My neighbor Jim kept telling me straw was trash for the coop, but I figured he was just being picky. After 3 months of dealing with damp spots and moldy bedding, I finally switched to pine shavings and the difference is night and day. Anyone else have a friend who gave advice you wish you'd listened to sooner?

Didn't my buddy Mark warn me about that exact same thing with his horses?

Oh man, Jim knew what he was talking about for sure. I had a buddy who swore by sand for his run but I thought he was nuts. Took me a whole year of mud season to finally try it and it was like a miracle. Straw just holds moisture way too much, even in dry climates. Pine shavings or sand, those are the real deal. Wish I'd listened sooner too.
