Remember when everyone said you needed a big, fancy coop? My setup from 2015 was a palace compared to my simple run now.

Wasn't there a trend for a while where coops got way too complicated? My buddy built this huge, two-story thing with automatic doors and a chandelier, no joke. He spent all summer on it, and his hens just hid in the same corner they always did. Now he uses a couple of old dog kennels covered with tarps, and honestly, the birds seem happier. Makes you wonder what we were all trying to prove back then.

My first coop in 2018 had a painted mural and a custom-built nesting box with individual curtains. I was so proud of it. After a few years, I realized the chickens just needed dry, safe, and simple. I switched to a basic A-frame with hardware cloth, and their egg production actually went up.
