Rant: The time I tried to save a chick with a heat lamp and a shoebox

Three years ago in my garage, I found a runt that was cold and not moving. I put it in a shoebox with a towel and a 60-watt bulb, checking every hour. By morning it was peeping and trying to stand. That cheap lamp and a quiet spot did more than any fancy brooder plate I've bought since. What's your go-to method for a weak chick?

Can't believe a 60-watt bulb did the trick! That seems way too hot for a tiny chick. You must have had the box set up just right.

Wait, a 60-watt bulb? That's wild, @karen_shah56. I tried that once and it was a total disaster. My setup was a cardboard box and I swear it got so hot in there you could've cooked an egg on the side. The chick just panted in the corner. I had to switch to one of those tiny 25-watt nightlight bulbs instead. Guess your box must have been huge or super well-ventilated.
