Rant: My brand new nesting box fell apart in a week

I got one of those wooden nesting boxes from Tractor Supply about 10 days ago, thought it would be fine for my 4 hens. Second time I opened the door to grab eggs the whole front panel just dropped off, the nails they used were like toothpicks. Anyone else had luck fixing cheap coops with better hardware or should I just build my own from scratch?

Particle board for a nesting box? That's insane, it's basically just sawdust glued together. I can't believe they'd sell something that's going to turn to mush the second humidity hits it.

Start by paying more attention to how they put it together than the wood itself. Those cheap kits from Tractor Supply are basically flat packed kindling with a coating of paint to fool you. I had one where the screws stripped out before I even got the roof on. A box of decent deck screws will fix most of it but you are still stuck with particle board that turns to mush after one good rain. Just build your own from scrap lumber if you have the time. It costs the same and wont fall apart when you look at it funny.
