PSA: The feed store in Millerton had a free coop tour last Saturday

I saw their setup for a dozen hens and realized my own coop was way too dark. I added a simple south-facing window, and the girls seem so much happier now. Anyone else find a small change made a big difference in their flock's mood?

My old coop got a skylight last spring.

How did the skylight work out for your flock, @grace817? Mine started laying earlier in the morning once we added one, seemed to perk them right up. I used a basic clear polycarbonate panel from the hardware store. The extra light made a huge difference during those short winter days, and the coop felt less damp. Just had to make sure it was sealed up tight so no drafts got in.
