I used to be the guy who thought "it's just a rooster, deal with it" but honestly that "my neighbor threatened to call the city" part changed my mind. Living close to other people means we gotta respect quiet hours, especially at 4am when everyone's asleep. A rooster crowing at that hour isn't just annoying, it's legit disruptive to people who work night shifts or have kids. I've had chickens before and honestly you can manage them better with a timer on their coop light or even rehoming the noisy ones. Your neighbor has a right to peaceful enjoyment of their own property too.

I relate to that "my neighbor threatened to call the city" part. Had a similar deal with my own rooster years back. I ended up putting the coop in a shed with a light timer so he'd crow later in the morning. Worked well enough for everyone to get along.
